City of Sparks unveils new logo

Sparks has a new logo. It was approved monday. They have yet to decide on a color palette. Not sure how I feel about it yet. I am sure it will grow on me and it kinda makes me want to take a drive through Sparks to check out the temporary signage and anything else that has the new mark on it.

In February 2009, the city unveiled the results of a $114,000 branding study. The city paid the money to Destination Development, Inc. to explore Sparks from an outsider’s perspective and come up with suggestions for boosting the city’s ability to attract visitors and retain residents. DDI’s suggestion was to brand the city as the place where “something is always happening,” or “It’s happening here.” DDI’s original suggestion to rename local sites, such as the Sparks Marina to “Celebration Lake” and Victorian Square to “Festival Place” were rejected. —source

What do you think about it? Is this an effective redesign and repositioning? Too early to say?

I am a bit disappointed that this rebrand was taken out of state.
